  Photos from a week in Barcelona and a two-week trip to central and southern Spain.

   Barcelona:  Barcelona has been an important port on Spain's Mediterranean coast for millenia.  It is the capital of proudly independent Catalonia.  The city has Mediterranean weather, incredible architecture, a highly developed sense of style, its own beaches, and a relxed atmosphere.  International surveys place Barcelona high in terms of livability, innovation, productivity, and cultural influence, and rate it as one of the world's major global cities.  Even on a short visit it's easy to see why.

  Spain:  Granada's Alhambra had inspired my original visit to Spain, and this time I suceeded in exploring this incredible fortress and palace complex.  I also visited other highlights in Granada, Cordoba, and Seville in Andalusia, and then returned to Madrid to explore that city and its surroundings.  Highlights dated from Roman times through the Moorish and Catholic Reconquista periods to modern times.

My first visit centred on Barcelona and the surrounding region.  My second trip headed south by high-spped rail to Andalusia to visit Granada, Cordoba, and Seville, and then returned to the Madid area.  Printable Spain Map  is available if you wish a copy.
